Trainer of Fitness Leaders (TFL)

    

A leader who has met the necessary qualifications to deliver OFC approved Fitness Leadership Training Courses according to OFC/NFLA standards. .

TFL Registration Criteria/Requirements:

  1. University Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Physical Education, Kinesiology or other related Health and Fitness area. A 4 hour tutorial is mandatory in the course or specialty module under the guidance of a registered OFC TFL. Note: A combination of education and experience will be reviewed on an individual basis if the above criteria does not apply see #3 and #4
  2. Current OFC registration (out of province registration will be reviewed on an individual basis)
  3. Letter indicating apprenticeship (50 hours of teaching in each course applied for) under an OFC or BCRPA TFL and completion of a four hour tutorial under an OFC or BCRPA TFL in the module you are applying for (Contact OFC Managing Director for information on TFL tutorials). Note: Those who want to complete the tutorial must apply to the OFC ahead of time for approval. Tutorials can be attended in person or online.
  4. If an applicant does not meet the criteria for number 1, a combination of education and experience will be reviewed on an individual basis. In most cases an apprenticeship program will be required under a current registered TFL, as well as a 4 hour tutorial.
    Components of the Tutorial Session
    • Review course content
    • Review presentation methods
    • Review lesson plans
    • Review practical application activities
    • Review evaluation formats
    • Review group dynamic activities
    • Review adult teaching & adult learning tips
    • Perform the above review in the order the course is taught
    • Review common challenges in delivering the course
    • Discuss registration/course pre-requisite difficulties
    • Discuss time allotment to segments of the course
    • Discuss use of guest presenters
    • Review handouts, charts, etc.
    • Review references for resource materials
  5. Current First Aid (current within 2 years of issue date) and CPR (current within 1 year of issue date)
  6. Resume of fitness background
  7. Instructional Competency Evaluation (ICE) Workshop (if you are only applying to be a TFL in Fitness Theory you do not need to perform this step). Contact the OFC for registration procedures.
  8. Shadow ICE (if you are only applying to be a TFL in Fitness Theory you do not need to perform this step). Note: For a shadow ICE you will need to contact a current ICE evaluator. If you are already a TFL in another practical module (i.e. weight training) you won't need to shadow but you will have to perform a mock ICE which will be explained by a regional manager or managing director.
  9. Two reference letters (current within 1 year) from a Supervisor or Manager/Owner indicating competencies as a trainer and educator
  10. Approval of course content and materials (Contact OFC for approved material, not required for Osteofit but approval needed by contacting the OFC)


Course Content Approval:

The OFC have approved material for certification courses. We are not currently accepting any new material for certification courses. Approved applicants will be tutored on how to cover and deliver these courses professionally.
